Trek Larapinta is a boutique trekking company that specialises in guided walking tours on the Larapinta Trail. Established in 1998 Trek Larapinta is a local pioneer of small group trekking tours on the Larapinta Trail. We think small is beautiful; being small we can focus on tour quality and sustainability, maintain strong local knowledge of the landscape and build meaningful connections within our community.
With its rugged, ancient landscape, the Larapinta Trail is one of the most spectacular multi-day hiking experiences in the world. We guide walking tours for small groups of 8 trekkers, along this magnificent trail. We employ passionate, highly experienced, professional guides, who deliver world class interpretive tours in one of the most spectacular places in Central Australia.
Trek Larapinta also offers volunteer programs on the Larapinta Trail, supports Indigenous enterprises and practices environmentally responsible travel. We do this in a place we know and love: the Larapinta Trail and Central Australia. These are special places for us. It’s a privilege to live here and share the experience with you. We understand that by looking after our wilderness areas and having a total ‘leave no trace’ policy we are preserving the areas that we visit for future generations. We abide by and believe in the philosophy that when you look after the land, the land looks after you.
Trek Larapinta wishes to acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Central and Western Arrernte Country for allowing us the opportunity to share this magnificent place – the Larapinta Trail/Western MacDonnell region.

Every decision and action of ours takes these principles into account. Trek Larapinta:
We have just completed the Super 6 Day Larapinta Trek with Trek Larapinta and it exceeded all expectations! Five years in the planning we expected beautiful scenery, but weren’t quite prepared for the scale and just how breathtaking it actually is! The trek turned out to be about much more than the scenery. Our guides, Kate and Rob, are experts and an asset to Trek Larapinta. They are very knowledgeable about the geology, flora and fauna of the area and their enthusiasm for sharing the Larapinta with others was inspiring. An added bonus was their superb cooking skills. The fresh, wholesome and extremely yummy food was much appreciated! There were many other highlights; from our fellow trekkers who became firm friends, campfire chats, sleeping under the stars in a swag, very refreshing swims in Birthday Waterhole and the Finke River, a show-off Spinifex Pigeon, to challenging but fun walking. Loved the rock hopping in the gorges! The NT Parks trail builders who constructed all the rock stairs on the slopes are to be commended. We have no hesitation in recommending Trek Larapinta and hope we can join another Trek Australia tour soon!
I’m still amazed that I could celebrate my 65th birthday, watching the sunrise from Mt Sonder, complete with musical accompaniment and a birthday scone cake.
Thanks Trek Larapinta for offering this wonderful way to see this amazing landscape. Your two highly competent and companionable guides, Jo and Ben, cooked wonderful meals and looked after us very well both in camp and on the trail. The campsite was comfortable and the program a great way to see and experience a small part of this ancient and very beautiful landscape.
If you want to experience Central Australia, in particular the West MacDonnell Ranges with its hidden delights, I could think of no better way to do it, but It does take some preparation re personal fitness and appropriate gear, and it is not for the faint hearted. It is well worth the effort, especially knowing how well supported we were with Trek Larapinta/Trek Australia.
What a fabulous time my brother and I have had trekking the Larapinta Trail with Trek Larapinta. Our group of 8 were looked after by our 2 multi talented guides Kenna and Joel who tended to our sore feet, cooked us delicious meals, told us jokes around the campfire and helped us get to the end of the tough days. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we really appreciated all the help and care they gave us. Joel’s laugh was infectious and I’m sure Kenna’s “ex tractor fan” joke will be told over and over.
This is a very special part of the world and we feel privileged to have been able to experience walking in this spectacular landscape, sleeping under the stars in our swags and spending 16 days with a lovely group of like minded people who all got along so well. The weather was perfect in late April, early May and the best time to do this walk. Not too cold at night or for a dip in the waterholes and a good temperature for walking.
I would recommend Trek Tours (Trek Larapinta) to anyone wanting to walk the Larapinta Trail. It has been an amazing experience and should be on every walker’s bucket list.
