About this tour »
Join Australian Travel Writer of the Year Daniel Scott at Trek Larapinta’s Ormiston Creek base camp for an inspiring week of travel writing, photography and walking on the iconic Larapinta Trail.
Daniel’s “Introduction to Travel Writing” course draws on his eighteen years experience contributing to the world’s most prestigious travel publications. In Australia, his work appears regularly in the Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne Age “Traveller” and a range of other prestigious publications. It has earnt him several national awards, including the Australian Society of Travel Writers’ top gong in 2011. Overseas he has written, among others, for the UK’s Daily Telegraph and the Times, for the South China Morning Post and for the Continental Airlines and Thai Airways magazines. He has also embraced the challenge of writing for the internet, blogging professionally on travel for the past five years for the likes of ninemsn.com.au.
The course, which has been run previously in London, Sydney, the south of France and Granada in Spain, has put several participants on the road to a successful career in travel writing and earnt a rave review in the UK Guardian newspaper.
It covers writing techniques such as penning a winning introduction and story structure, offers the chance to do a photography safari and gives the low-down on marketing your work to newspapers, magazines and the web. Over the week, there will also be time to try different writing styles and lengths of story and spend one-on-one time with Daniel discussing your work. The professional support continues with assessment of up to three post-course travel articles.
The course will be interspersed with time to absorb the magnificent Central Australian landscape and guided walks along the legendary Larapinta Trail.
