About this tour »
Walking the Larapinta Trail provides an unequalled opportunity to experience the desert ranges of Central Australia.
Starting in Alice Springs and ending on Mt Sonder, this tour is a selection of highlights from along the Trail, allowing you to take in some of its most scenic views: from ridges, gorges and mountain peaks.
Carrying only a day pack as you walk. you'll trek through Wallaby Gap, Serpentine Gorge, Ormiston Gorge, Finke River, Rocky Bar Gap, Redbank Gorge, Mt Sonder and more.
We will visit some spectacular and beautiful areas, and Trek Larapinta's style of bushwalking is to take plenty of time to enjoy the wider experience of being in this powerful landscape: time to take photos, ask questions, drink tea and just be.
This is an ancient place, and it has Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land. On this tour, we are fortunate to spend some time with the McCormack family, who are Traditional Owners of some of the country we are walking through.

Testimonies »

I could not have asked for a better-run and better-organised expedition than Trek Larapinta ... with attention to all the finer details,
Shane ensures the needs of all campers are always well catered for. To me he was also the polymath of Larapinta, imparting his deep knowledge of the locale with care, interest and sensitivity.
Trek Larapinta has been shaped to meet everybody's interests - you'll get the hard yakka and important information along the trail; but you'll also get good food, wine and cheer off it.
Trek Larapinta is the perfect means to get to grips with inner Australia and I strongly recommend the experience to even the most hardened city types!

Days vary between 5 and 8 hours of easy-to-moderate-to-hard walking, depending on the section.
You do need a moderate level of health and fitness to do the 9 day trek, and you can prepare for this. If you engage in about 1 hour of aerobic activity (this might include walking, cycling, swimming etc) 3 - 4 times a week during the 2 - 3 months prior to your trip, you should find yourself fit enough to enjoy your days' activities.
Doing longer walks on bush tracks can help you prepare your body for the full days on the trail. The more physically ready you are, the more you will enjoy your holiday.
Feel free to talk more to us about being prepared for your holiday. Or download the trip itinenary for more information.
