About this tour »
Where you will be walking on the Larapinta Trail
The 6 day tour covers the Western sections of the Larapinta Trail, from Ormiston Gorge to Mt Sonder. These are spectacular and varied hikes, taking you through some of the best examples of the West MacDonnell's vegetation, its gorges and views.
On each section, you are rewarded with views of Mt Sonder. It slips in and out of sight, getting closer all the time, until the final section: a hike up her slopes, to the highest point on the Larapinta Trail.
The tour is designed so that days vary between 5 and 8 hours of easy-to-moderate bushwalking. We have had people between the ages of 11 and 80 come along and enjoy this trip, and with the right preparation, you can, too.
How we walk the Larapinta Trail
Travelling with us, you know you're coming with a local business that specializes in the Larapinta Trail, and you can enjoy a walking holiday where all the organisation, 4WD transport, food prepation, camping and catering equipment and other logistics are taken care of for you.
For each day's hike on this rugged world-class track, you carry just a day-pack. We create these trips to be an informative experience as well as a walk through the unique terrain, so we seek to share our knowledge of the place and provide what you need to have an active-yet-comfortable holiday. You walk with a guide for the days' trek, then the support guide comes to pick you up and drive you to camp, where you can relax while Trek Larapinta caters for your needs.
Minimal Impact | Sustainable Practices
Being a small, local business, we remain keenly aware that we rely on the health of our environment. It sustains us and we, in turn, seek to sustain it. A beautiful bushcamp on the Ormiston Creek Bed is our guides' 'home' during the walking season. We know it's a privilege for us to be here. We seek to tend it as best we can with minimal impact practices and share these ways with you.

I had a most challenging, exhilarating and enjoyable trip. My thanks go to all of you for introducing me to bush camping, looking after us so well with your expert guiding on the Larapinta Trail and cooking so well with your exemplary culinary skills back at camp. The Red Centre now takes on a different verve ... Thanks again for the enriching experience and the privilege of sharing it with you.
Regards,

Grade of 6 day larapinta trail trek: moderate »
Days vary between 5 and 8 hours of easy-to-moderate walking. You do need to have a moderate level of health and fitness to do the 6 day trek, but don't be intimidated: ages of people on our tours have ranged between 11 and 80!
If you engage in about one hour of aerobic activity (this might include walking, cycling, swimming etc) three-to-four times a week during the two months prior to your trip, you should find yourself fit enough to enjoy your days' activities. Longer walks on bush tracks can help you prepare your body for the full days on the trail.
Feel free to talk more to us about being prepared for your holiday.
