About this Aboriginal Cultural Tour »
Thakaperte is the traditional home of the McCormack family who have lived here, on the Northern side of the MacDonnell Ranges, since the beginning of time. It is a special place, just 50km west of Alice Springs, Central Australia. The landscape is stunning and the country rich in cultural significance with important Aboriginal dreamings located here.
Stephen and Gloria McCormack invite you to spend some time with them and their family at Thakaperte on this overnight tour. (You can visit the Thakaperte web site. Click on the different photos to see the kind of activies that are run on these tours).
“The things we like to show to visitors are the things we do every day, like collecting and cooking up bush food, looking after the horses, making paintings and sitting around telling stories. It’s a relaxed style with all the family getting involved - please join us, you’ll find it easy to fit in.” Stephen and Gloria McCormack

We also spend an afternoon with the McCormacks on our 9 day Larapinta Trail trek

Thakaperte has actively sought out tourism opportunities to ensure a positive future for their family on their country, out here in remote Central Australia. We would like to thank the Traditional Owners of Thakaperte for allowing us to be a part of their tourism venture.
As a locally owned business, Trek Larapinta endeavors to provide a greater connection between people and place. Supporting the McCormacks is a part of this process. We are just a modest part of the McCormack's vision for sustainability, but we are an extremely proud participant.
We would also like to acknowledge Central Land Council and to Pete Allsop from Lucky Miles for their support in establishing this venture between Thakaperte and Trek Larapinta.
