| 9day tour: itineraryNote that this itinerary is an example, and we can and do modify it as required in regards to sections walked, depending on weather conditions, trail conditions and group fitness. We may sometimes change the order of the days or do a section in reverse, but we will always choose what is best for the comfort, integrity and logistics of the tour. Accomodation pick-up in Alice Springs: approx. 7:30am of Day 1 Day 1 | First part of Section 1. We pick you up from your accomodation at about 7:30am then go together to the historic Telegraph Station and we walk straight out of Alice Springs and onto the Trail. We do the first part of Section One: Alice Springs to Wallaby Gap along Euro Ridge. At Wallaby Gap, we're met by the support vehicle and camp for the night. Day 2 | Second part of Section One. We walk out of Wallaby Gap to Simpsons Gap, with a chance to visit Scorpion Pool and Fairy Springs. After the walk, we're shuttled to the Old Serpentine Bush Camp. Day 3 | Section 8. We're shuttled to Serpentine Gorge, where the section begins. We climb a ridge in the Heavitree Range and walk along it to Count's Point, which is quite a spectacular place for a cup of tea. From there, we descend the ridge into more wooded areas and walk right into the Old Sepentine Bush Camp. Day 4 | Section 10. We're driven through the West Macs to Ormiston Gorge then walk Section 10, all the way into our camp on the ancient Finke River. Day 5 | Ormiston Pound. A shorter day, this portion of the West Macs is enclosed by the ranges and includes a variety of views and terrains. The afternoon is leisurely, and you can spend it back at camp or visit Glen Helen Gorge. Day 6 | First day of Section 11. A good walk: reasonably challenging, with some rocky ascents and descents, it also crosses a sandy river and goes through the 'Rocky Bar Gap' in the range. Return to Finke bush camp. Day 7 | Second day of Section 11. An easier day, the walk wanders the base of the range and goes through some of the best examples of arid-land plant life that you'll see along the Trail. Today, we also get to visit Redbank Gorge, and the brave can have a plunge in the icy waterhole there! Return to camp. Day 8 | Section 12. Mt Sonder. You're delivered in the vehicle to Redbank, where the ascent of Sonder begins. A challenging (but rewarding!) 16km round trip that's well worth the enjoyment and beauty of the view. Return to camp with time in the afternoon to rest in the surrounds, visit Glen Helen or peruse the Trek Larapinta library. Day 9 (morning only) | A last, leisurely morning in camp, with time to drink good tea or coffee, roll the swags and then climb into our vehicle for the ride back through the West Macs into Alice Springs, where we should arrive by about 11:30am. jump to | description | top of page | back to | Main Tours Page and Information | |
