6day tour
|Bookings | Description | Itinerary | As well as individual bookings, we can also tailor tours for private or group bookings. To enquire about available time slots, you can email us at: Even if the time slot you desire appears to be full, it's still worth contacting us, as cancellations do sometimes happen and vacancies can occasionally appear. A little note: To avoid disappointment, please wait to receive confirmation from us before booking other travel arrangements around this trip (such as flights). We will keep this page updated as much as possible, but while running trips as well, sometimes delays are unavoidable. But if you're in contact with us, we'll always let you know what's going on.
| 6day tour: brief descriptionA 'journey towards Mt Sonder', with each day revealing closer views of this elegant desert peak and the tour culminating in the challenging (but rewarding) ascent to its summit. Sections walked: The western sections: 10, 11 (over 2 days, with a visit into Redbank Gorge) and 12 (Mt Sonder), and one day doing the Ormiston pound walk.
| 6day tour: itineraryPlease note that we may sometimes change the order of the days or do a section in reverse, but we will always choose what is best for the comfort, integrity and logistics of the tour. Accomodation pick-up in Alice Springs: approx. 7:30am of Day 1 Day 1 | Section 10. Hotel pick-up in Alice at approximately 7.30am. You're driven through the West Macs to Ormiston Gorge then walk Section 10, all the way into our camp on the Finke River. Day 2 | First day of Section 11. A good walk: reasonably challenging, with some rocky ascents and descents, it also crosses a sandy river and goes through the 'Rocky Bar Gap' in the range. Return to Finke bush camp. Day 3 | Second day of Section 11. An easier day, the walk wanders the base of the range and goes through some of the best examples of arid-land plant life that you'll see along the Trail. Today, we also get to visit Redbank Gorge, and the brave can have a plunge in the icy waterhole there! Return to camp. Day 4 | Ormiston Pound. A shorter day, this portion of the West Macs is enclosed by the ranges and includes a variety of views and terrains. The afternoon is leisurely, and you can spend it back at camp or visit Glen Helen Gorge. Day 5 | Section 12. Mt Sonder. You're delivered in the vehicle to Redbank, where the ascent of Sonder begins. A challenging (but rewarding!) 16km round trip that's well worth the enjoyment and beauty of the view. Return to camp with time in the afternoon to rest in the surrounds, visit Glen Helen or peruse the Trek Larapinta library. Day 6 (morning only) | A last, leisurely morning in camp, with time to drink good tea or coffee, roll the swags and then climb into our vehicle for the ride back through the West Macs into Alice Springs, where we should arrive by about 11:30am. jump to | description | top of page | back to | Main Tours Page and Information |
